Snapped! A first look at Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West as Burton and Taylor

Yes, there was a movie about beloved gay icon Elizabeth Taylor and her 5th (and 6th) hubby Richard Burton already. But it was an unintentional comedy starring a horribly miscast Lindsay Lohan.

So, it’s nice to see that BBC America is making a Liz and Dick movie that, judging from first promotional image alone, is already better than the Lifetime flick!

It stars Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Taylor, the two-time Oscar winner and AIDS activist who died in 2011. Burton, a seven-time Oscar nominee who died in 1984, is being played by Dominic West.

The film, to air this fall, will be set against the backdrop of their appearance in the 1983 revival of the play Private Lives. By this time, the famous pair had been married and divorced twice.

Burton got married again (to Sally Hay) during the run of the play and Taylor got engaged (to Victor Luna who she did not marry). Reviews for the play were poor but box office on Broadway and in a national tour was huge.
