Singer-songwriter MaryLou Fulton’s latest song “Many More of Us” speaks up for women and reproductive freedom
Combine the fight for women’s reproductive freedom with a funky groove and you get Many More of Us, a new rocker from award-winning songwriter Mary Lou Fulton.
MaryLou decided to write the song after the U.S. Supreme Court rolled back the clock nearly a half-century and overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that had decriminalized abortion nationwide.
“Don’t you believe that the right to decide what happens to your body is at the heart of what it means to be free? ” she asks. “I do, and that’s why I wrote Many More of Us.
I want you to share this song and this video with anyone and everyone because it’s so good – just like all of MaryLou’s songs which include the 2019 social justice anthem Not Going Back (I Don’t Think So) – a song that made me a true fan of her music. Her debut album We’ll Tell Stories was a Top 15 hit on the FAI Folk Chart with songs played on more than 200 radio stations.
I’ve long been a fan of the person who was one of my first editors at the Los Angeles Times back in the 90s and became a tremendous mentor and friend. Most of my best early stories were done under her guidance.
After decades as a reporter, writer and editor at The Times, The Washington Post and several digital media companies then a lengthy run as a program director at The California Endowment health foundation, MaryLou put her musical and storytelling skills together and began writing songs.
