Showtune Sunday: The late, great Donna Summer duets with Seal in one of her last concerts

I attended a small dinner party last night. Four gay men at the table so you just know we are going to end up talking about all of our favorite divas.

We covered them all: Diana, Liza, Chaka, Patti, Cher, Barbra and more.

One of the guys wondered if Donna Summer’s death earlier this year got short shrift in terms of attention because of Whitney Houston’s a few months earlier. Then somebody mentioned a mini concert she did with David Foster that had aired on PBS. I had not seen it!

Found it this morning and watched it and had to share it with you. It aired on PBS on March 7, 2011, a little more than a year before Miss Summer’s death. She looked good and she sounded great and what a treat to see her duet with Seal on a few songs.

We will never forget Donna Summer.

  1. Greg:

Thank you for posting this video. I had not seen it either & love it! I’ve been listening to alot of Donna lately, her music does not get old. Her voice sounded as good as ever & she looks beautiful. Again, thank you for posting.

  2. Thank you so much for tracking this down and posting it. Donna still looked and sounded amazing, as usual.

    Thanks Again

  3. She was the best of the best. No one has ever been able to sign with such power and with a perfect tone.

  4. This is from 2010 and if you look for some David Foster & Friends concert in 2011 you’ll see her looking even more svelte and vibrant as ever. One of her very last performances was at David Foster’s wedding reception in November 2011. Her father said she would sing until her last breath. Sadly he was right.

The mood that her voice created alongside music was both emotional and soothing. She always left you wanting more. Listen to her sing Barbara’s song ‘Papa, can you hear me,”.You will cry!
