Showtune Sunday: See variety show-era Cher team with Tina Turner and Kate Smith for a Beatles medley!

This photo is of ageless superstars Cher and Tina Turner at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

But the musical video I’m sharing with you today is from more than 30 years earlier when these two great superstars of the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond teamed up with a third great singer: Kate Smith!

Kate, who died in 1986, was best kn0wn for her rendition of Irving Berlin’s God Bless America. Her five-decade recording career reached its pinnacle in the 1940s but she is familiar to audiences of 1970s variety shows like Sonny and Cher and Tony Orlando and Dawn because she was an occasional guest and would really belt out a number or two.

Here Kate, Tina and Cher do a Beatles medley that takes you back to a time when random and wonderful things like this happened on television.
