Natalie Cole’s death on New Year’s Eve seems to be the loss of a celebrity that hits you a little harder than most of them.

I’ve watched a lot of videos of her music in recent days and have a renewed appreciation for what a wonderful performer she was. Yes, she wore beautiful gowns and looked gorgeous but somehow it always seemed to be about the music – especially when she did the music of her father Nat King Cole.

I’m so glad that after she became a superstar in her own right that she embraced that music.
