Showtune Sunday: In honor of Broadway revival of “Evita,” LuPone, Madonna et al. do “Don’t Cry for Me Agentina”
Elena Roger is the latest woman to play the role of Evita Peron on Broadway in Evita with a revival of the musical opening just last last week.
This seems like a good time to enjoy a bunch of different versions of the big ballad Don’t Cry for Me Argentina performed by Madonna, Elaine Page, Sarah Brightman and, of course the great Patti LuPone (pictured above) – the original Evita to which all are compared.

You forgot the best version. For the Spanish speaking people, by far the best one. In this rendition you can not only hear the best voice, but see real tears at the end. Paloma San Basilio’s performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmEbfo59aaE

Lexxvs, Thanks for sharing that. That’s definitely the most beautiful version I’ve heard.
