Showtune Sunday: Early Barbra Streisand!
Several of my friends are reading Barbra Streisand’s new memoir or listening to it on audio. I have another book I’m determined to finish so have not started My Name is Barbra – yet.
One of those friends was talking about Barbra’s early career when she was performing in nightclubs then on Broadway in I Can Get It For You Wholesale in the early 1960s which led to guest appearances on various television shows,
She then signed to Columbia Records—insisting that she retain full artistic control and accepting lower pay in exchange, an arrangement that continued throughout her career —and released her debut, The Barbra Streisand Album (1963), which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
These clips are from those early pre-Funny Girl years leading up to her first TV special. She was and is spectacular.
