Showtune Sunday: Birthday boy Wilson Cruz sings “Today 4 U” from his days as Angel in “Rent”

Hard to believe that it was 21 years ago that Wilson Cruz was cast as Rickie Vasquez on My So-Called Life.

The show only lasted one season but it’s a cult classic and it launched Wilson who turns 42 today.

He was openly gay from the start of his career and went on to p\lay the recurring character of Junito on Noah’s Arc and Victor in the final season of Party of Five. He also had roles in the films Nixon, johns and Party Monster.

More recently, Wilson was a regular on the TV series Red Band Society and starred in the film The People I’ve Slept With.

But one of Wilson’s best-known roles was not in a film or on a television. It was on the stage as Angel in the Broadway and national touring company of RENT.
