Showtune Sunday: Assorted songs from “Gypsy”

There’s a new production of the legendary musical Gypsy that opened on Broadway this month starring six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald in the great role of Mama Rose. She follows in the footsteps of Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone who previously had the role on the Great White Way.

Since the current revival has had to cancel some performances in recent days due to illnesses in the cast, I’m posting some numbers from the most famous past Roses, including Bette Midler who starred in the 1993 television version of the show and Rosalind Russell in the 1960s feature film version..
