Showtune Sunday: Angela Lansbury performs “We Need A Little Christmas” from “Mame”

Last week, I had two really fun evenings that brought me to this post.

The first was the annual Outfest screening of Auntie Mame at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood which had me part the drunkest, gayest audience I’ve ever been a part of. (There was an open bar).

It was fabulous.

At one point in the film, during the holiday scene, someone in the audience sang a bit of We Need a Little Christmas which isn’t in the film with Rosalind Russell but is in the Broadway musical which starred Angela Lansbury and the 1974 starring Lucille Ball.

Then the next night, I was at the Ahmanson Theatre watching Miss Lansbury herself, still quite spry at 89, performing in the play Blithe Spirit – a role that won her a fifth Tony Award when it was on Broadway.

So that brings me to today’s holiday tune: Miss Lansbury performing We Need a Little Christmas.
