Showtune Sunday: All about “Hey, Look Me Over” from the Lucille Ball Broadway musical “Wildcat”
Between the long and successful runs of TV’s I Love Lucy and The Lucy Show, Lucille Ball starred in the Broadway musical Wildcat which had a book by N. Richard Nash, lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, and music by Cy Coleman.
The show was a hit with audiences but only ran for 171 performances before being forced to close in June 1961 because Miss Ball was suffering from suffering from a virus and chronic fatigue and even collapsed on stage during one performance.
The show introduced the song Hey, Look Me Over, which was subsequently performed as a cover version by several performers including Judy Garland, Bea Arthur, Sutton Foster and Miss Ball’s talented daughter Lucie Arnaz who has enjoyed major success on Broadway.
