Showtune Sunday: All about “Everything’s Coming Up Roses” from Gypsy and who did it best?
Cast your votes! I had not seen Imelda Stauton’s version which is fierce and had not heard Rosalind Russell’s own singing voice in the movie version. Love Lansbury and LuPone but Midler seems too upbeat in this number. Merman obviously has best vocal chops but this clip doesn’t reveal how she acted the part.
What are your thoughts?

Bruce says:
A proper contest must include Tyne Daly & Bernadette Peters versions. Not to mention the prospect of Audra McDonald stepping up to the plate!
Bill says:
Definitely Ethel Merman. I saw Angela Lansbury on Broadway in 1974. She was great too.
