Showtune Special: Who sings your favorite version of “Memory,” the power ballad from “Cats”?

Now that I’ve gone public with the fact that I actually liked the Cats movie, I’d love to hear from you all on Memory, the ballad that is the heart of the movie.

The character of Grizabella, the faded glamour cat, sings the song. First sadly then later triumphantly, and Jennifer Hudson puts her stamp on it beautifully.

I went back and re-watched a bunch of other versions on YouTube and was, once again, blown away by Broadway’s original Grizabella, Betty Buckley, who simply sings this song like no one else ever will. It’s magic.

Surprisingly, the weakest version here is from Barbra Streisand who just doesn’t seem to capture the heartbreak of it in my mind. It’s pretty but it’s missing something.
