Showtune Monday: All about Liza and Lorna!
Took yesterday off but had meant to have a Showtune Sunday post all ready for you.
Don’t want to wait a whole other week so am presenting a special Showtune Monday (It’s great when it’s your own blog and you can make executive decisions like that!).
I’m fascinated by the dynamic between the daughters of Judy Garland and did not realize there was video of them singing together at a past Tony Awards telecast.
Liza Minnelli, of course, went on to become just as big a star as her mother. So what a couple of huge shadows that were cast for Lorna Luft who also wanted a showbiz career.
I remember Lorna being in Grease 2 and on Trapper John MD then I don’t recall seeing her much although I’ve since discovered she kept very busy doing theater (including Broadway, Off-Broadway and national tours) and raised her two children.
In more recent years, she has done quite well for herself by embracing her mother’s legacy with the 1998 book Me and My Shadows: A Family Memoir which was adapted into a TV movie and the 2007 CD Songs My Mother Taught Me which has become a very successful one-woman show.
