Shirley MacLaine to receive Kennedy Center Honor

I don’t always agree with the selections for the Kennedy Center Honors but there is no one who can quibble with Shirley MacLaine being selected this year.

(Other honorees will be Billy Joel, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock and Martina Arroyo – the great Carol Channing was passed over again! It’s not going to happen for the Hello, Dolly! legend)

From Shirley’s first film, 1955’s The Trouble With Harry through to her current role on Downton Abbey, she is a forever star of screen and stage and so much more (author, activist, dancer).

Unlike her brother, 2004 Kennedy Center honoree Warren Beatty, Miss MacLaine works a lot and continues to deliver the goods.

She won the Academy Award for Terms of Endearment after nominations for The Apartment, The Turning Point and Irma La Douce. Other memorable films: Sweet Charity, Postcards from the Edge, Steel Magnolias, Madame Sousatzka, Being There, Can-Can, The Children’s Hour and an acclaimed performance in the TV film Coco Chanel.

Here are a few of my favorite Shirley MacLaine movie moments:
