Shane Bitney Crone mourns the loss of the beloved dog, Justin, who he shared with Tom Bridegroom

It breaks my heart to say that Justin didn't make it through the night. I am devastated. I knew this day would eventually come but I didn't think it would be so sudden and unexpected. In a way, losing Justin feels as though I've lost another piece of Tom. ———————————————————- Justin (whose full name was Justin Bobby but we often called him JB) was found on the streets of Hollywood after almost being hit by several cars. His teeth were infected and his fur was so matted and tangled that he had to be shaved. Tom's and my dear friend and neighbor, Carrie, saved him and put up a notice about him in our complex. Tom begged me to at least meet him, even though I told him we couldn't handle owning a dog at that time. ———————————————————- The moment we met him, however, we knew he was meant to be a part of our family. We saved him, but truly Justin was the one who saved us. He was a cherished outlet for all of the affection Tom so desperately wanted to give and after Tom died, JB provided me with much needed comfort and unconditional love. I went into a deep depression but Justin was always there by my side, snuggling with and loving me, especially when I cried. ———————————————————- Justin, I like to think I will see you again. I hope that wherever you are, you and Tom are together. ———————————————————- Thank you everyone for your comments and concerns regarding my previous post. I know many of you know the pain of losing not just a pet, but a beloved member of your family, and I appreciate the outpouring of love.

One Remark

  1. I don’t know if Shane knows about the rainbow bridge, but here it is:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
