Serena Williams to play for 5th Wimbledon title

It’s always good for the game of tennis when its superstars actually win the sports major tournaments.

Let’s face it, Petra Kvitova (2011 Wimbledon), Sam Stossur (2011 US Open) and Li Na (2011 French Open) are destined to be one slam winners and aren’t exactly going to make me want to get up early to watch in a slam final.

But Serena Williams is another matter.

She’s a genuine superstar and one of the greatest to ever play the game.

On Saturday, Serena will be facing Agnieszka Radwanska in the women’s singles final and I’m expecting her to win handily. If she does, it will be her fifth Wimbledon crown and 14th grand slam title overall – a total exceeded only by Margaret Court (24), Steffi Graf (22), Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova (18).

After winning Wimbledon in 2010, Serena did not compete in the tour for nearly a year after suffering a series of serious physical setbacks.

”I’m just happy. I’m so happy to be playing. I’m so happy to be on the court,” Williams said after the match. ”I feel like this is where I belong.”
