Serena Willams to play for fourth Wimbledon crown!
Serena Williams has stopped the madness at Wimbledon by winning her semifinal match earlier today and has booked a place in the finals on Saturday for the sixth time.
She will be heavily favored to beat Vera Zvonareva, a former top 5 player making a strong comeback.
After Roger Federer, Andy Roddick and Serena’s sister Venus suffered shocking losses in recent days, I was afraid finals weekend was going to be a case of Who? vs. Who?
But three-time champion Serena has made it through and assured that at least one of the Williams sisters will play in the singles final for nine out of the last 10 years. Venus has won five times and lost three finals to her sister. Serena lost the 2004 final to Maria Sharapova. Neither sister played in the final in 2006 when Amelie Mauresmo beat Justine Henin.
Despite the loss of Federer, the men’s final four still have three of the top four players: Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray. I’ll be watching tomorrow’s semis rooting for Murray against Nadal because it would be such a fairy tale ending if a British man were to win at Wimbledon for the first time in more than seven decades!
