See the great Angela Lansbury receive much-deserved honorary Oscar at Governors Awards

Did not expect to come home from a lovely dinner in Newport Beach with friends tonight and shed a few years.

But the emotion just came over me while watching these videos of Saturday night’s Governors Awards where Angela Lansbury, the legend of stage and screen, was presented with an honorary Academy Award.

How lovely that these special awards are now a separate evening where the recipients can be feted properly instead of squeezed in to the regular telecast.

Miss Lansbury, still a busy working actress at 88, was nominated for three Academy Awards including for her first film, 1944’s Gaslight, made when she was just 17. She was soon again nominated for The Picture of Dorian Gray and in 1963 for The Manchurian Candidate.

She worked with all the greats including Katherine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy, Laurence Olivier, Bette Davis, Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra, Orsen Welles and later played the mother of Warren Beatty and Elvis Presley.

It’s a remarkable film career that has been overshadowed by 12 years of Murder, She Wrote and a sensational career on Broadway that has brought her a record-tying five Tony Awards.

Miss Lansbury is a class act and a huge talent and how wonderful to see her finally getting an Oscar.
