See a preview of “The Real O’Neals”

ABC announced yesterday that it has ordered the sitcom The Real O’Neals for its fall schedule and this preview gives me high hopes that this show will be something special.

One of the executive producers is columnist Dan Savage who is often a lightning rod for the religious right.

The trailer includes a cameo by a character identified only as ‘hot cologne model’ who appears only in the imagination of a Catholic family’s closeted gay son.

But he’s not closeted for long.

The lives of this seemingly perfect Catholic family take an unexpected turn when surprising truths are revealed including the son’s sexuality and the crumbling state of the parents’ marriage.

Instead of ruining their family, the honesty triggers a new, messier chapter where everyone stops pretending to be perfect and actually starts being real.

The Real O’Neals stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin,; Mathew Shively, Bebe Wood and Mary Hollis Inboden.
