See a powerful new video from Tom Goss that puts gay twist on ‘Son of a Preacher Man’

Out singer-songwriter Tom Goss has released a somber and powerful remake of the Dusty Springfield classic Son of a Preacher Man.

In his version, the teenage son of an anti-gay preacher falls in love with another young man in his dad’s congregation.

The video, directed by Michael Serrato, starts out with a scene is church with the preacher saying: ‘Let me be perfectly clear: you cannot abide the gospel and be okay with homosexuality. You cannot have faith in God and be okay with homosexuality. You cannot call yourself a Christian, and be okay with homosexuality.’

As the preacher goes on with his rant and says, ‘It is possible to change,’ two male teens are making eye contact and smiling at each other and after the service are talking and joking around.

It’s at this point Goss begins to sing the familiar hit that was recorded by Springfield in September 1968 and featured on her classic album Dusty in Memphis. The song was written by John Hurley and Ronnie Wilkins.

We see then see the two boys hanging out in various sweet scenes before we return to the scene at the church. They sneak away to a nearby and share a kiss which is witnessed by the preacher father who does not take it well.
