View this post on Instagram Can we just take a minute to STAN over the genius of Martina Navratilova (seen here at The Politician premiere with her wife Julia)? When I was growing up in the 1970s and 1980s in Indiana, I was OBSESSED with Martina. I felt her truth and her struggle. She was true and an icon and so so important to so many gay boys and girls (like me) who didn't have role models. When Brad and Ian and I were writing THE POLITICIAN we wrote a love interest for Gwyneth we kept calling "a tribute to Martina." I finally said to our iconic casting director Alexa Fogel "can you just track Martina down and ask her if she'll do it?" Alexa found Martina against all odds and she instantly said yes because she felt like acting would be a cool challenge after literally conquering and changing the world for all of us. I love you Martina. You are so so cool and more important than you will ever know. It's been an honor. A post shared by Ryan Murphy (@mrrpmurphy) on Sep 27, 2019 at 7:48pm PDT
