Rosie O’Donnell and Kelli Carpenter on the rocks

http://www.instablogsimages.com/images/2009/08/17/rosie-o-donnel-kellie-carpenter_GIwaD_22974.jpgAnother sad item: Rosie O’Donnell has confirmed that she and Kellie Carpenter are having serious problems.

“We’re a family,” Rosie tells USA Today. “We will remain a family forever. And we are working on our issues.”

Rosie would not say whether she and Kellie were living separately. She said their four children remain their top priority.

“They’re adorable and wonderful and they are by far a priority,” Rosie said. “Kelli and I love each other very much and we are working on our issues. Those are the only words I am ever going to say. Ever. And that is something that has been agreed upon by all parties,” she said, tears collecting in her eyes. “But everything’s fine and everybody’s good and we’re still both raising them together. We will both continue to parent them and we’re friendly and everything’s all right.”

The couple married in San Francisco in 2004 (pictured) but theirs and all others marriages performed in the city were later nullified. When the California Supreme Court ruled last year that same-sex couples could marry in the state, the previously outspoken Rosie was strangely quiet on the subject and did not publicly campaign against Proposition 8 which passed last November and once again made same-sex marriage illegal in the state.

You have to wonder if Rosie was quiet because of the problems she and Kellie are experiencing.

One Remark

  1. She wasn’t exactly “silent”; rather, she gave the entire LGBT community the back of her hand, “explaining” quite specifically why she did nothing to fight Prop 8. When confronted directly about her inaction, she replied, in her inimitable blogging “style”: “i do not live in california.” She told another blog reader who questioned her (quite politely, IMO): “i think u r a moron.” As for her San Francisco marriage, it was hardly a marriage; according to O’Donnell herself, it was merely “an act of civil disobedience.” You can see the shameful exchanges here: http://www.goodasyou.org/good_as_you/2008/10/rosie-and-prop.html

Ultimately, I have as much sympathy for O’Donnell and her relationship troubles as she had for me, for my wife, and for the indescribable anguish we endured as the status of our _legal_ marriage was left twisting in the wind until May 26, 2009.
