The Ron Howard-directed comedy The Dilemma starring Vince Vaughn finally opens nationwide today.
But we’ve been hearing about the movie for months thanks to a controversy surrounding a workplace scene where Vaughn’s character says: “Electric cars are gay.” He goes on to make clear that he doesn’t mean “homosexual, gay, but, you know, my parents are chaperoning the dance, gay.”
Universal removed the scene from the trailer and GLAAD wanted the joke removed from the movie entirely. But Howard refused and was backed by the studio Sony Pictures.
The Oscar-winning director visited the ladies of The View this week and was asked about the controversy and he said that while he did not have a problem with the trailer being changed, he didn’t feel compelled to remove it from the film because it’s “the nature of that character Vince Vaughn plays” and it’s “not lost on anyone within the framework of the scene.”
