Roger Federer wins his 72nd career title!

Switzerland's Roger Federer HoldsCHAMPION: Roger Federer has been playing like a champ so far this year and on his second title of 2012 on Saturday. The 30-year-old Swiss superstar edged Andy Murray 7-5, 6-4 to win his fifth Dubai Championships title.

It marked the 72nd championship win for Federer who has now won five of the last seven tournaments he has competed in. One of the losses was an injury default and the other was a four-set defeat to Rafael Nadal in the semifinals of the Australian Open.

“This is perfect. This is great. Any title is a good one, I’ll tell you that,” Federer said after the match.

But no matter how many tournaments he wins, Federer’s eyes are always fixed on the sport’s four grand slams of which he has won a record 16 – more than any other man in history. But he has not won one since the 2010 Australian Open.

  1. How sweet it was to watch that match, I see the fire back like I have not for a while, although, I must confess when he beat del Po, who has to be one of the hottest guys on the ATP, well, one of my many hot ones, I was deflated, but, I’m always a happy camper when I see Roger in the winners seat, way to go Roger!

  2. @ Mike-I think Roger can win another Slam but it will take some luck IMHO. Very happy to see him winning again.
