Roger Federer wins first title of 2012!

Roger Federer got back into the winner’s circle today by winning the ABN Amro World Tennis tournament in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Federer, currently ranked third in the world, defeated Juan Martin del Potro 6-1, 6-4 in the finals. The Swiss superstar’s last title came at the ATP Tour Finals in November. He has reached two semifinals so far this year – including at the Australian Open – and lost a Davis Cup singles match last weekend.

It was the 72nd tournament victory of Federer’s career. He has won a record 16 grand slam singles titles but in the past 1.5 years, has been playing in the shadow of current number one Novak Djokovic and second-ranked Rafael Nadal.

He seems determined to stay in the conversation and this win is a good sign!
