Roger Federer wins 80th career title!
My all-time favorite tennis player, Roger Federer, made his legions of fans very happy today when he won the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.
It was his third tournament victory of the season and his 80th title overall. Only Jimmy Connors (109) and Ivan Lendl (94) have more crowns on their resume but Federer has won more grand slam singles titles (17) than both of those great players combined (17 for Federer, 8 each for Connors and Lendl).
Fed’s 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 win over David Ferrer gives the great star a terrific boost as he prepares for the US Open in a week, a tournament he has won five times but not since 2008. He was runner-up last week in Toronto and last month at Wimbledon.
“I come in with great confidence,” he said of the US Open. “I can really rest now, rather than having to work on stuff, so it’s just about maintaining. That’s also really good for the mind… I know my game is where I want it to be. It’s about just keeping that level up right now.”
Later, Roger tweeted out the photo below along with this message for fans: Yeeeaaaahhhhh, so happy about this win here in #cincinnati thanks to all the amazing fans here for a great week!

Stefan Edberg has done such a fabulous job with Roger getting him to come in and knock off a few volleys. With Nadal out of the US Open and Nole not playing his best Roger’s odd’s of winning another slam just went up. YAY!
