Roger Federer ends season with historic win!

What a happy day for we Roger Federer fans who are thrilled that our favorite player has turned around what had been a dismal season by winning the ATP World Tour Finals for a record sixth time.

Federer defeated Jo-Wilfred Tsonga 6-3, 6-7,6-3 to end his season on a 17-match winning streak and with three straight titles.

“I couldn’t be more happy. I couldn’t be more exhausted,” Federer told the crowd at the O2 Arena. “Jo sucked every last bit of energy out of me today.”

The victory means Federer surpasses Ivan Lendl and Pete Sampras, who both won five titles at the season-ending event for the world’s top eight players. It was his 100th tournament final and 70th tournament win overall.

This is the first year since 2002 that Federer has ended a season without winning at least one of the sport’s four grand slam titles. The closest he came was a runner-up finish at the French Open.

The Swiss superstar had dropped to number four in the world but has climbed back up to number three and goes into the 2012 with great momentum and confidence as higher ranked Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are struggling with injury and motivation.
