Robby Ginepri no longer just a beautiful loser

Ginepri crowns comeback with Indianapolis titleRobby Ginepri is one of the tennis players I like to follow because, well, he’s damned hot!

But following had become less fun as he started losing more matches than he was winning and nearly dropped out of the top 100. But that changed on Sunday when he won his first singles title in four years triumphing at the Indianapolis Tennis Championships.

Robby beat fellow American Sam Querry 6-2, 6-4 to win his third career title.

“It’s funny how things work out,” he told the press after the match. “I was trying to take one match at a time. I hadn’t won two back-to-back matches all year, so after I won that second one, I maybe got that monkey off my back a little bit for the year and just kept going.

Ginepri, ranked No. 15 in 2005, entered the week with a 4-13 record this year. He will move up to around No. 56 next week, according to the Association of Tennis Professionals.

“When you have a lot of losses, you start questioning if you can play at this level,” he said. “It creeps in the back of your mind, so this is definitely a confidence boost for me the rest of the summer.”

At 26, Robby has plenty of time to resume his winning ways – let’s see if he can do it! I personally hope to see him out on the practice court (check out the pics below) because he favors working on his stroke shirtless!
