View this post on Instagram Woke up this morning to the very sad news that Congressman John Lewis had passed away. There are not enough superlatives to describe his life nor his lasting impact on this country and the world. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. Just weeks ago I was scheduled to speak with the Congressman about JOHN LEWIS: GOOD TROUBLE, a documentary chronicling the life and career of the legendary civil rights activist. I was very concerned when told he was too ill to do the interview. I was provided an advanced screener of the film and while watching it was moved to tears. It’s out now and I encourage you to see it…you’ll gain an even greater understanding of why when this man arrived at the Pearly Gates John Lewis heard the words: Well done, good and faithful servant. View this post on Instagram John Lewis was the truest kind of patriot. He believed America could be better, even live up to its highest founding ideals of equality and liberty for all. He made good trouble, necessary trouble, to help us get there. Now it’s up to the rest of us to carry on his life’s work. Rest in power, my friend. View this post on Instagram Thank you for teaching us all, @repjohnlewis. Rest in power. . . This was taken in 2019 after sharing many stories about the ‘63 March on Washington and John’s memories of #BayardRustin. What struck me on this day was how gentle and kind this incredible strong, wise freedom fighter was. He will be deeply missed. #GoodTrouble A post shared by Dustin Lance Black (@dlanceblack) on Jul 18, 2020 at 12:16am PDT

View this post on Instagram I had the honor of meeting Congressman John Lewis on a couple occasions. I’ll never forget being able to take this picture with him off the balcony to his office. He was so kind and generous with his time. He’s done so much for our country and we need more people like him to get in some #goodtrouble. He stood for equality, justice, and sacrifice for the greater good. #RestInPeace #Hero A post shared by Jason Collins (@jasoncollins_98) on Jul 18, 2020 at 4:27pm PDT
