Remembering Ernest Borgnine
Ernest Borgnine, the Oscar winning actor (Marty) who is probably best known for his starring role on television’s McHale’s Navy, died on Sunday at the age of 95.
I snapped this photo of him three years ago at the Creative Arts Emmys where he was a nominee for a television movie he had done.
I asked Mr. Borgnine how a man of his age (he was a mere 92 then) continued to work in such high-caliber projects. He said: “Listen, why not?” I’m still young (laughs). What the heck. Age is just a number, it’s what you do with it that counts. I’m just not bent over and reaching for an old chair. I’m still going!”
What a great attitude! No wonder he lived to be 95!

FAEN says:
He was a great actor and I shall miss his talent however his memory will be slightly tainted to me due to his bashing of ‘Brokeback Mountain’.

I was listening to Free Beer & Hot Wings on the radio this morning. They played a clip of Mr. Borgnine being interviewed on FOX news. The interviewers wanted to know how he looked so young for his age (I think he was around 92 at the time). He leaned over and whispered – loud enough to be broadcast over the air – “I masturbate a lot.” I thought I was gonna die laughing. So I looked it up online and it is on YouTube. Well, this isn’t a very good tribute I’m giving him…but on a twisted note, maybe it is.
