Raven-Symone’s message to young stars beseiged by paparazzi: ‘That’s your fault, Boo-Boo. Stay in the house’
Let’s face it, when it comes to handling young fame and paparazzi and all the rest, Lindsay Lohan and Justin Bieber are examples of what not to do.
Raven-Symone on the other hand should write a book on it.
Getting her start at the age of 3 on The Cosby Show, Raven has been famous for a quarter of a century.
Now 28, the actress came out publicly as a lesbian last year and did so on her terms in a simple Twitter message in support of gay marriage.
The former star of Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven and the popular Cheetah Girls movies credits her mom and dad for giving her the tools to be able to navigate the pitfalls of fame.
‘My parents taught me to keep my private life private, to the best of my ability,’ she tells Oprah Winfrey in a new interview. to air Sunday on OWN. ‘They showed me all the role models out there that I could turn into and what I want for myself in the future.’
Her film career has included roles in The Little Rascals, Dr. Dolittle, Dr. Dolittle 2 and College Road Trip. More recently, Raven starred in the short-lived ABC Family comedy State of Georgia and in 2012 she made her Broadway debut as the lead in the musical Sister Act.
She has learned some important lessons about fame along the way.
‘What I’ve learned is it’s unnecessary to go to the most popular restaurant in the world when you have a scandal on your head, and then get mad when someone’s going to take a picture of you,’ Raven says.
‘That’s your fault, Boo-Boo. Stay in the house.’
