Ratings loser “Smash” exiled to Saturday nights
I just don’t get it.
A forgettable show like Rules of Engagement can run endlessly while something truly exciting and loaded with talented with star talent is barely going to make it through its second season.
Word came down today that NBC is moving Smash to Saturday nights which is basically like canceling it. I’m just glad it appears the network is going to air the remaining episodes of the show’s much-improved season 2.
I have enjoyed this show about the behind the scenes of Broadway musical theater so much and come to savor every episode.
It has a first-rate core cast of Katherine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Christian Borle, and Anjelica Huston. And the guest stars have been out of this world including Jennifer Hudson, Sean Hayes and Bernadette Peters who have all appeared in several episodes. Liza Minnelli is to guest as well.
I’ve also loved the one the street cameos from such Broadway stars as Harvey Fierstein.
All 17 of the season two episodes have been produced. The change to Saturday nights will begin April 6.
So what will air in place of Smash? A new reality show called Ready for Love which is far cheaper to produce.

I wasn’t sure about the new direction of the show this year, but as the story has progressed I have fallen back in love with Smash. Saturday night will likely kill this show, hopefully they will find a way to bring it to a proper conclusion. I will be sad to see it cancelled 🙁

The show has become a ludicrous departure from reality and deserves to be cancelled. About as realistic as a cartoon, and the laughingstock of NY’s professional theatre community.
