Rachel Maddow tells Ellen DeGeneres she is “bored” with hate mail about what she looks like
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is a terrific looking woman so it’s amazing to learn that, from the beginning of her career, about 14 percent of her hate mail has been about the way she looks.
Rather than being upset about it, Maddow told Ellen DeGeneres this week that she is simply bored with the topic: “I want new hate mail. I want it to be about something other than me being mannish and cow-like.”

Ugh, if these hatemongers would go out and help people in need instead of spewing hate, this would be a better place. I just don’t get it at all, I don’t think she is ‘mannish’ at all, and, LOTS of women dress like her, what’s she supposed to wear, a frock with flowers and pearls?
Katmandu says:
You stated that “the beginning of her career, about 14 percent of her hate mail has been about the way she looks.” That would not have been remotely interesting or worthy of repeating if that’s what she said.
However, it’s not at all what she said. And what she actually did say was very interesting and a sadly powerful commentary.
What she said is that 100 percent of her hate mail has been about her looks. One hundred percent!!
There’s a lot of space between 14 and 100 and it makes the comment (and the commentary) entirely different. If it were only 14 percent, it wouldn’t be newsworthy. The fact that 100 percent of her hate mail is about her looks says a lot about how we value (or don’t value) what she has to say–good, bad, or otherwise.
Where you got confused is that 14 percent of her mail is hate mail.
It’s important stuff. If you have something important to say, say it. Be careful or you might wind up making incorrect and meaningless points.
