R.I.P the gifted Marcia Wallace of “The Bob Newhart Show” and “The Simpsons” fame – she was 70
Marcia Wallace, the voice of The Simpsons’ Edna Krabappel, died on Friday at age 70, according to a TMZ report.
Marcia would have been 71 next week.
Of course for many of us, she is best remembered for her role as Carol the receptionist for six seasons on The Bob Newhart Show. She was also a frequent panelist on Match Game.
I have a fun memory of her. In 2005, I was at LAX returning from a trip to Rio. I saw this tall woman with bright red hair ahead of me on the moving walkway. It was Marcia Wallace. She told me she had been on a book tour. We were both punchy and tired and gabbed away for awhile.
One of my favorite celebrity encounters ever.

I sat next to her on a flight from SF to LA, could not have shared an 1 hr and half with someone more entertaining. Have missed ‘seeing’ her for a long time and will continue missing her but will be able to her voice. Not being able hear [someone] anyone’s voice is sad.

Very sad. Marcia was a one-of-a-kind gem! RIP.
