Popular gay couple Will and Sonny make final appearance on “Days of Our Lives” – for now
I became a Days of Our Lives fan a decade ago when the gay characters of Sonny Kiriakis and Will Horton emerged.
Today the characters left the canvas, together, for the first time and I may have watched the show for the final time. I shared my feelings in the Instagram post below but will add that at this time in our history when diversity is a topic on the front-burner, Days gets a major fail in this area.
Major.
Actors Chandler Massey (Will) and Freddie Smith (Sonny) were still absorbing the news that their characters had been written out when they had to film their final episodes earlier this year. They deserved better and the fans deserved better.
Meanwhile, we get more of Xander! Who cares? Not me!
Freddie Smith wrote on Twitter this week: “The Wilson exit is coming … I know it’s going to be sad to see us go, but I want to celebrate the beautiful love story we all created together!! Let’s focus on all of the positives and love that has been shared over the years. Thank you all”
Massey had written back in February: “Wish it weren’t coming to an end, but I will be forever grateful to everyone who went on this journey with us.”

This “end” is a horrible direction for the soap opera to go! I’ve lost all interest in the show & it apparently lost interest in the millions of LGBT viewers, so ratings will fall. That’s a mathematical concln. Their relationship was very important & entertaining in daytime viewing. Lets hope they soon return!
