Plaintiff Edith Windsor reacts to DOMA ruling

VICTORIOUS: Today’s DOMA victory was a ruling on the New York case filed by Edith Windsor who sued because she was required to pay a $350,000 federal estate tax bill.
The government did not recognize her marriage to her late wife Thea Spyer and under DOMA, couples cannot file joint federal tax returns or receive survivor benefits if one spouse dies.
The New Yorker reports that Windsor, 83, awaited the news at the apartment of Roberta Kaplan, the lawyer who argued her successful challenge to DOMA.
Windsor said, ‘I wanna go to Stonewall right now!’
She then she called a friend and said, ‘Please get married right away!’
