People’s Choice Awards: Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons and Jesse Tyler Ferguson among the gays to get nods

The nominations for the People’s Choice Awards have been announced and while it is not a particularly LGBT-heavy year, there is some representation in the television and music categories.

The gays actually outnumber the straights in the Favorite Comedic TV Actor category with Chris Colfer of Glee, Jesse Tyler Ferguson of Modern Family and Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory nominated along with Two and a Half Men’s Ashton Kutcher and Modern Family’s Ty Burrell.

Matt Bomer, whose series White Collar begins its final season on USA Network this week, got a nod for Favorite Cable TV Actor.

Bomer’s competition is Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Eric Dane (The Last Ship), Sean Bean (Legends) and William H. Macy (Shameless).

In the category of Favorite Daytime TV Host(s), multiple-times past winner Ellen DeGeneres leads the field again.

Her competition is Kelly Ripa and Michael Strahan, Rachael Ray, Steve Harvey, and Queen Latifah.

Singer Sam Smith is the only openly-gay artist represented in the music categories but he received a total of three nominations.

The British newcomer is nominated for Favorite Male Artist, Favorite Breakout Artist and Favorite Song (Stay With Me).

The People’s Choice Awards will air live from the Nokia Theater L.A. Live on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 (9:00-11:00 PM, ET/delayed PT) on CBS.
