Patti LuPone honored in NYC by Drama League and star guests including Audra McDonald, Christopher Sieber and Nick Adams!

Patti LuPone, Tony winner for Evita and Gypsy and one of the stars of the recently-closed Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, still has plenty of friends despite the brutal honesty of her recent memoir which won the 2010 Greggy Award for Book of the Year.

Miss LuPone was honored on Monday by the Drama League at its annual winter benefit at the Pierre Hotel and some of Broadway’s best and brightest showed up.

Out star of stage and television Christopher Sieber was the evening’s emcee and another out star, Nick Adams of the upcoming Priscilla Queen of the Desert was in attendance. It was so nice to see a reunion of Miss LuPone, who starred on ABC’s Life Goes On for four seasons, and her television son Chris Burke (pictured below).

Others present: Four-time Tony winner Audra McDonald of ABC’s Private Practice, Miss LuPone’s Women on the Verge co-stars Laura Benanti and Justin Guarini as well as Chad Kimball and Will Swenson (pictured below with Nick Adams).

I’d love to hear Patti’s thoughts on Barbra Streisand taking on the role of Mama Rose on film. Patti, who starred in the most recent Broadway revival of Gypsy, was a sensation in the part.
