Believe it or not, televengelist Pat Robertson is claiming gay people aren’t really gay

I would laugh at this except there are too many people out there in TV land who take what Pat Robertson says seriously – no matter how outrageous it is.

Now the 83-year-old televangelist seems to think that gay people really aren’t gay at all. He had this to say on his 700 Club television show this week: ‘A lot of people are into this homosexual thing because they’ve been abused by a parent, abused by a coach, abused by a sibling, abused by a friend, they’re little boys and little girls and they don’t know any better and then they somehow think, ‘well I must be gay,’ they aren’t they are heterosexual and they just need to come out of that.’

Another reason people are gay, according to Robertson, is ‘because they have forsaken God.’

‘It’s not something that is natural,’ he said. ‘When people reunite with the Lord, the Lord will get their priorities the way it is supposed to be… You work through it and if you meet the Lord it should be, it can be instant.’

Robertson began the discussion by complaining about being labeled anti-gay and insists he is not anti-anything. He even claimed to have ‘many, many’ gay viewers.

‘I am very pleased that we have many, many, many homosexuals watching this program and many of them are looking for love and acceptance and help, and I’m glad to report that we have thousands of these people who are saying, “Yes we want to follow Jesus, we’re not happy with the lifestyle we’re in and we want to have a better way.” I think it’s wonderful that that’s happening.’

If Robertson does indeed have gay viewers, it would be despite him saying just last week that he wishes there was a ‘vomit’ button to push on Facebook whenever he sees photos of gay couples.

He also had previously spoken out against gay adults being involved in scouts and lumped them together with pedophiles.

Then there was the time he claimed that gay people can change their orientation just as murderers, rapists and thieves can change, and when he said gays are ‘possessed,’ and that it is possible to ‘un-aquire gayness.’
