Outfest Fusion opens tonight with “Blackbird” – continues through the weekend at Egyptian

Have not seen Mo’Nique on the big screen since her stunning Oscar winning performance in Precious.

Well, that ends tonight because I am leaving in just a bit to the Egyptian Theater for the opening night of Outfest Fusion which runs through Sunday. More info and tickets HERE.

I’m going to see several of the shorts programs and cannot wait for tomorrow night when Alec Mapa: Baby Daddy screens and Alec is presented with the Fusion Achievement Award for his terrific career that continues to thrive due to his persistence and immense talent.

Blackbird is the latest film from Patrik-Ian Polk who brought us the Noah’s Arc TV series and feature film.

It follows 17-year-old Randy, a devout choir boy living in a conservative Mississippi town, as he struggles to understand his sexuality while also caring for his mother following his sister’s disappearance.

The film also features a performance from Isaiah Washington as Randy’s absentee father.

GLAAD’s Wilson Cruz said of the film: “Patrik-Ian Polk’s Blackbird not only presents much-needed representations of gay men and straight allies of color, but also contains a positive message about how accepting yourself allows others to do the same. It’s a perfect film to kick off Outfest’s Fusion Film Festival.”
