Outfest 2009: “La Mission” kicks off LGBT film festival at Orpheum Theatre tonight

La MISSION

Yes, the Academy Awards are fun but c’mon, opening night of Outfest 2009 cannot be beat! The difference though was at least I was on the red carpet at the Oscars – I was denied a spot for tonight’s event via form letter that I received just yesterday.

Not happy about it.

Anyway, I’ll be meeting my pal Michael near the Orpheum Theatre for dinner then we’ll go the the screening of the opening night movie La Mission starring Benjamin Bratt. Then the always legendary after-party! Will have party pics for you tomorrow and coverage from whatever goes on inside the theater. It’s always an awesome night.

I’m very anxious to see La Mission in which Bratt stars as a reformed inmate and recovering alcoholic. He’s a single father whose joie de vivre lies in socializing with his circle of friends and transforming old cars into lowrider masterpieces. When he discovers that his high schooler  son, Jesse (Ray Valdez) is gay, his world is thrown into turmoil.

The film is directed by Peter Bratt, Benjamin’s brother.

Here is video of an interview from this year’s Sundance Film Festival where the film premiered:
