Outfest 2009: Don Roos to be honored

If you loved terrific The Opposite of Sex and Happy Endings then you are a fan of Don Roos who wrote and dirtected both of those indie gems.

Don, who also wrote the screenplays for Love Field, Boys on the Side and Single White Female among others, is being honored at next month’s Outfest, LA’s gay and lesbian film festival. He will receive the 13th annual Achievement Award in recognition of his body of work which has made a significant contribution to LGBT film and media.

It is the festival’s highest honor and will be presented to Roos during the July 9 opening night gala at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Los Angeles.

Outfest Executive Director Kirstin Schaffer had this tio say about the homoree: “As a writer, director and producer, Don has had a profound impact on both mainstream and LGBT audiences and media. Through a perfect combination of dark humor, fresh yet familiar characters and biting pop culture sensibility. Don consistently delivers stories that are relevant and entertaining to all.  It is for his extraordinary vision, passion and talent that we honor him this year.”

Past honorees include Donna Deitch, Bill Condon, Kenneth Anger, Gregg Araki, Todd Haynes, Jane Anderson and Gus Van Sant.
