Out producer Perry Moore (“Chronicles of Narnia”) is found dead in NYC of apparent drug overdose

This is such shocking and terribly sad news: Perry Moore, an author and the executive producer of The Chronicles of Narnia film franchise, has been found dead at the young age of 39.

Police discovered Moore Thursday morning in his New York City apartment after an apparent overdose, according to the New York Daily News.

Moore was found unconscious in the bathroom at about 9:30 a.m. by his partner, Hunter Hill, inside the W. Houston St. home they shared.

“We’re in shock,” said the producer’s father, Bill Moore, adding that he just spoke to his son the night before. “He was in a great, great mood. No one was expecting this. … “We’re so sad. He’s been able to reach out and touch a lot of people.”

The exact cause of death has not been determined, but sources said it appeared to be an overdose of OxyContin.

The elder Moore said his son was awaiting news on a new screenplay. “He was set to do some mighty good things,” he said. “Parents are not meant to bury their children.”

My condolences to his family on their tremendous loss.

It was back in 2007 that I first became aware of Perry Moore.

I had just taken People magazine to task for not including more gay men in its annual hottest bachelor’s issue. Not too long after, I was flipping through a subsequent issue of the magazine and saw this hot, blonde guy posing with a surfboard and assumed he was straight.
I started to read and my eyebrow went up when the piece stated that he has just written his first novel, “Hero,” about a gay teen superhero.

The first item made things clear. Perry was asked to describe his seduction secret: “Because I had such trouble coming to terms with being gay, it’s just being myself. Don’t play any games. Then you’ll meet someone who loves you for who you are, and you’ll love him for who he is.”

Perry said in the article he would “love to see two guys meet in the surfing line-up. You’re all out there where the waves are breaking, waiting to catch one. Late in the day, you’ve caught a lot of great rides, the sun is setting, and you have someone to share that with.”

The producer/author has been partnered for 13 years at that time and was also asked what the perfect recipe for romance is: “Good waves. Good wine. Great new wave music. A little bit of dancing. A little bit of dancing. Writing 10 great pages. And collapsing into the arms of the one you love.”

He was also asked how to keep love alive and said: “Laughter first. Then, knowing that no bad moments lasts forever, but love can.”
