OUT Power 50: Tim Cook, Ellen and Maddow are top 3 again – Caitlyn Jenner ranks #8

Apple CEO Tim Cook and daytime talk show queen Ellen DeGeneres remained the two most powerful LGBT people as they topped Out magazine’s ‘Power 50’ list for the second year in a row.

The magazine for the 10th year has ranked the most influential LGBT people in American culture.

Rounding out the top five are MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow in third place in a repeat of last year, CNN host Anderson Cooper in fourth and American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy in fifth.

Cooper gets bragging rights over his best friend, Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen, who was ranked seventh.

Caitlyn Jenner, who came out as transgender a year ago, makes the list for the first time behind Cohen at number eight.

Also new to the list is Sense8 and Matrix franchise director Lilly Wachowski who came out as transgender just last month.

She is ranked 22nd along with sister Lana Wachowski who is also transgender.

The annual list has never shied away from including people who have never publicly declared that they are gay or bisexual.

This year, that list includes entertainment executive Barry Diller (12th) and Fox News anchor Shepard Smith (24th).

The magazine featured both Cooper and Jodie Foster on the cover of its 2008 Power 50 cover years before either of them came out publicly.

3 Remarks

  1. Does anyone know if Shepard Smith is actually gay?

Congratulations to all these people. Thanks for making a difference.

  2. @Joe-You should watch ‘Outrage’. Shep Smith is gay. I loathe him for what he does and who he votes for though.

  3. Republican hypocrite Caitlyn Jenner and Chad Griffin-shame on you both. Is there a ‘I’m a crappy LGBT’ list we can put them on?
