Out ‘America’s Next Top Model’ winner Nyle DiMarco will compete on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Model Nyle DiMarco will be making Dancing With the Stars history this season as the first deaf male celebrity to take part in the competition (Marlee Matlin was the first female).

He is also the first celebrity on DWTS to describe himself as sexually ‘fluid.’

The 2015 America’s Next Top Model winner will be paired with dance pro Peta Murgatroyd.

He joins such celebrities as joins such celebrities as Geraldo Rivera, Facts of Life alum Kim Fields, retired NFL player Doug Flutie and Donald Trump’s second wife Marla Maples.

DiMarco came out last fall when he was asked a simple question by one of his more than 33,000 Twitter followers: ‘Nyle you have so much gays fans! Tell us, boys or girls?’

His answer was one word: ‘Fluid.’

But also he attached a link to an Everyday Feminism article entitled ‘How Fluid Sexuality Fits into the LGBTQIA+ Spectrum.’

The article detailed what it means to be sexually fluid:

‘Fluid has no fixed shape, but it still has a fixed volume and consistency. So it may be with fluid sexuality—just because a person may prefer men right now doesn’t mean that will hold true for the rest of their life or even the rest of the week.
‘It may also be the case that some people are just wired to be more fluid and others are wired to have a more fixed sexual orientation. In either case, the person didn’t make a conscious decision about how they’d grow to express their sexuality.’

DWTS does not have a stellar record when it comes to including LGBTI contestants but past competitors do include Chaz Bono, Lance Bass and Michael Sam.

5 Remarks

  1. FYI: He’s not the first deaf person to compete on ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Marlee Matlin competed a few seasons back.

  2. Lovely guy. That said, I suspect that being auditorily impaired may big a hindrance when it comes to dancing. If he is well coached, he could get away with it once, twice… but in a competition. Or maybe I missed something huge.

  3. I believe Marlee Matlin, a wonderful actress who is also deaf, previously competed on DWTS.

  4. Did you guys NOT read Greg’s article… He plainly said that Marlee Matlin was the first deaf woman to appear….. Two people repeated this… wow

  5. I updated to include Marlee after being informed- so thanks everyone. Should have noted it was updated. Thanks Ron and everyone.
