On this sad day, let’s remember the late, great Dolly Parton with some of her most memorable songs

I don’t know about you, but I’m just reeling over the death of Dolly Parton in a way that I have over very few celebrities. Never got to interview her but I followed her music and her movies and all she did for decades and not only enjoyed her talent and energy, I truly believed she was a remarkably good person who made the world a better place.

She was an absolute gem.

As sad as this day is, it is her music we will remember her by the most I think although her movies Nine to Five and Steel Magnolias are classics.

Dolly was born in Sevier County, Tennessee, as the fourth of 12 children. It’s well known the family was quite poor in terms of material possessions but had strong values and a lot of love.

And out of that situation emerged a beloved star who has been making hits for 50 years such as Jolene, Coat of Many Colors, I Will Always Love You, Islands in the Stream, Here You Come Again and Nine to Five, among others.

Of her longevity, Dolly said: ‘People feel like they’ve known me so long because I’ve been around a long time. I’m really like an aunt or a cousin or a person you’ve grown up with—like somebody in the family. So I think they feel comfortable with me. I really think that is Southern hospitality.”’
