On Neil Patrick Harris’ 53rd birthday, husband David Burtka pens “my love” a sweet tribute

Hard to believe, but Tony Award winner and multi-Emmy winning actor Neil Patrick Harris turns 53 today. It was 38 years ago that he starred opposite Whoopi Goldberg in Clara’s Heart then a year later, in 1989, he began his four-year run as the star of ABC’s Doogie Howser MD.

There’s been other hits series (How I Met Your Mother), triumphs on Broadway (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) and scores of roles on stage and screen.

And then there’s his happy marriage to David Burtka with whom he has two children.

David posted on Instagram today: Celebrating another birthday with you is such a joy. I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot by marrying you. You’re incredibly smart, determined, loving, and thoughtful. You’re everything a parent should be, and I’m so grateful to have you. Life is just getting better for me. Happy Birthday, my love!
