Obama makes does not want to boycott Olympics
There is a growing number of people who believe the US should boycott the 2014 Olympics if they remain in Sochi because of Russia’s anti-gay laws.
President Barack Obama isn’t one of them.
‘I do not think it’s appropriate to boycott the Olympics,’ Obama said today at a White House press conference. ‘We’ve got a bunch of Americans out there who are training hard, who are doing everything they can do to succeed.’
Obama added: ‘Nobody’s more offended than me by some of the anti-gay and lesbian legislation than you’ve been seeing in Russia. One of the things I’m really looking forward to is some gay and lesbian athletes bringing home some gold, silver or bronze which I think would go a long way in rejecting the kind of attitudes that we’re seeing now.’
The president also said: ‘If Russia doesn’t have gay or lesbian athletes, it will probably make their team weaker.’

God I love President Obama.

I don’t think boycotting is the answer either. They should be relocated. There are always backup plans. I remember that Athens was cutting it VERY close to even being ready to host, they had plans to fall back to another site if that happened. Vancouver could pick up the slack fairly quickly. Perfect? No way, but that would be Russia’s issue to bear.
I can only hope that the EU countries many in North America, etc. will pressure the IOC to do it.
