Now Bret Easton Ellis has issue with gay actor Neil Patrick playing straight Barney Stinson
Yes, I know, we’re going to have to start ignoring his rants soon because Bret Easton Ellis is starting to get a little ridiculous and clearly loves the attention he is getting from his outrageous tweets.
Yesterday, I shared with you his comments that Matt Bomer would be miscast in the film versions of 50 Shades of Grey because he is gay.
He has not backed away from that and instead is fanning the flames. His latest Bomer-related remarks:
Reading all of these articles about Matt Bomer: I NEVER said gay actors can’t play straight roles, or straight actors can’t play gay roles. … However: in the VERY specific case of trophy-husband Matt Bomer playing Christian Grey then it makes things problematic. That’s the truth… Scene in Fifty Shades of Grey I’m most looking forward to: Matt Bomer as CG: “Are you gay, Mr. Grey?” Matt sighs: “No, Anastasia, I’m not.”
Then he moves in to Neil Patrick Harris’s Emmy-nominated portrayal of womanizing Barney Stinson on the long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
“Feel complicated about Neil Patrick Harris on How I Met Your Mother: central joke being that he’s a gay actor playing a het womanizer. Um… Then why not cast Jason Segal in the Neil Patrick Harris role in How I Met Your Mother? The meta-joke is that Harris is openly gay. Lame… Look, I like Neil Patrick Harris especially when he’s hosting The Tonys but “How I Met Your Mother” is like all CBS sitcoms a piece of crap. … You don’t think the makers of How I Met Your Mother didn’t KNOW that Neil Patrick Harris was gay and that would be part of the joke? Really? … And please don’t get me started on the gay The Big Bang Theory. I’m too tired to go there. Gayness personified. Another terrible CBS sitcom.”
And finally, there’s this: “You’re missing the point. I’m not a homophobe. I’m a misanthrope. I hate the way homosexuality is presented in our entertainment culture.”

Frankly have limited knowledge of BEL, the internet is great. This man does have talent but was not chosen to write the screen play for 50 Shades. Came across a direct quote of his which applies just a shade, “You get to write ’em but you don’t get to pick ’em”.
Mark Flores says:
Um, in order to be either a misanthrope or homophobic, someone would need to care, so you’re neither.
Mike says:
To keep it real, I have never heard of this guy before, but, wow, he does seem to have some deep rooted issues, sad so much ill targeted rage and anger.
Gaspar Marino says:
Mr. Easton Ellis is an a–hole

Another version of “Love the sinner, hate the sin.”
Casting a gay actor in a straight role, which is the focus of the problem he seems to have issues with, is not a case of presenting homosexuality in our culture. Yeesh.
Samantha says:
What the heck does being gay matter when it comes to stuff like this? Actors are called actors because they are ACTING like an entity different than their own being. Jesus Christ. Talent is talent and that said, Neil Patrick Harris is amazing. And even if they did cast Jason Segel as Barney and NPH as Marshall, he’d still be in a straight role…as much as I love that show, each actor makes it what it is in their own way, and that show would not be what it is without Neil Patrick Harris as Barney Stinson or without Jason Segel as Marshall Eriksen. Sexual orientation, race, religion, preference of chocolate to vanilla…none of that matters here. And whoever thinks it does is ignorant and dumb and needs to deal with their own clearly present issues.
Also I hope Bret Easton Ellis realizes that HIMYM debuted in 2005, and NPH didn’t publicly come out until 2006…so, yeah, the creators most likely didn’t know for absolute sure.
you ignorant idiot says:

I love how I met your mother and so does my 12 year old son. We love the character Barney. He’s sofunny. No one else but Neil Patrick Harris could play him. It’s 2014 ppl! He’s gay in real life engaged to love of his life and they have two kids together good on them! If they are happy what business is it of anyone else’s?? Only jealous ppl judge others on there sexual orientation! Good to hear guys happy in love for a change. It’s time we got a grip and loved ppl for who they are and stopped caring who’s gay or straight. It don’t matter we’re all human. Love is love xx
